WHO WE ARE
The Asia Displacement Solutions Platform is a joint initiative of the Danish Refugee Council, International Rescue Committee, and the Norwegian Refugee Council, which aims to contribute to the development of solutions for populations affected by displacement in the region.
Drawing upon its members’ operational presence throughout Asia, and its extensive advocacy networks in Europe and north America, ADSP engages in evidence-based advocacy initiatives to support improved outcomes for displacement-affected communities. As implementing agencies, ADSP members work closely with displaced populations and the communities that host them and are therefore able to contribute a distinctive, field-led, perspective to policy and advocacy processes which can sometimes be removed from the realities on the ground the and concerns of those living with, and in, displacement.
By coming together under the aegis of the ADSP the three member agencies – global leaders in innovative policy and programming – commit to collaboration in order to achieve improved outcomes for displacement affected communities in the region.
The ADSP works to support solutions to displacement by:
Conducting research to support evidenced-based policy interventions
The ADSP will contribute to the understanding of the complex displacement dynamics at play across Asia. With a current focus on displacement from Myanmar, as well as the Afghan displacement axes, ADSP is contributing to the creation of create a clear evidence base which it uses to inform advocacy, support effective programming interventions, and bring a field-led perspective to policy processes The recent adoption of the Global Compact for Refugees and Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework provide opportunities to rethink traditional responses to long-term displacement and ADSP seeks to capitalise on this and other policy developments, creating a forum in which challenging and imaginative advocacy and policy development initiatives can develop.
Building partners’ capacity to engage
Recognising that the search for innovative and sustainable solutions to displacement requires input from a diverse group of stakeholders, the ADSP works with a broad range of partners, increasing their capacity to engage in the discourse around comprehensive solutions for displaced people. Through the provision of training and mentoring it supports members of national and international civil society and government representatives to develop their understanding of durable solutions and ability to participate in policy discussions, such as those associated with the Global Refugee Forum. Training packages are locally contextualised and draw upon best practice from other regions and from the outcomes of ADSP’s research.
Strengthening coordination for improved outcomes
ADSP members have a broad operational presence throughout Asia. The platform supports their improved coordination by regularly bringing the members together to share information, disseminate lessons learnt and develop joint advocacy positions. By improving coordination between its members ADSP supports improved outcomes for the displaced populations they serve, and provides a strong, principled voice across the region
ADSP governance
The founding members of the ADSP have significant expertise in responding to the needs of displaced individuals. Furthermore, they have extensive operations across both the Afghan and Rohingya displacement axes.
The ADSP has a distinct identity from its member organisations, but is governed by a Steering Committee made up of the Regional Directors of the founding members.
